·        Drafting a strategy to develop, design, implement and manage biodiversity spatial databases, and the EWT Knowledge Management System, and be accountable.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Minimum of Masters in biology or a related field, MCDBA certification or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in SQL a prerequisite. At least 3 years proven experience working with Geographic Information Systems such as ArcGIS, QuantumGIS and other platforms (candidates will be requested to provide details of analyses and other outputs).
·        Proven ability to develop and manage complex relational databases.
·        Strong spatial data analysis skills and a solid track record of working with existing analytical tools (such as R, Maxent, place-prioritisation packages like SITES and ResNet, population simulation software including Vortex and Ramas).
·        Proven experience with statistical and other modelling software/packages (candidates will be requested to produce reports, outputs and papers illustrating previous experience).

Position available: Field Officer (Bats): Wildlife & Energy Programme

To implement bat specialist studies as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for wind farm developments in South Africa; to undertake a range of bat conservation related activities associated with the development of renewable energy , to ensure that this new infrastructure to ensure minimal to no impact on bats.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Qualification: Minimum BSc (honours) in the natural sciences relevant position.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ experience in relevant field
Competencies required:
§ An excellent knowledge of bat identification, behaviour, and general ecology including echolocation calls using suitable devices such as an Anabat detector
§ Anabat analysis
§ Use of Geographic Information Systems
§ Proficiency in Microsoft Office
§ Excellent report-writing skills
§ Willingness to work in remote places and travel extensively within SA
§ Valid SA drivers license, and suitable driving experience
