28 - 30 August 2006
REGISTRATION
Registration is open to any person interested in impact assessment and environmental management. Formal papers will be presented during conference sessions, posters will be exhibited throughout the conference and there will also be a formal poster session at which presenters should be available to answer questions about the topic of their poster. Exhibitors will man their stations at tea breaks and during lunch hours.
Registration fees entitle delegates to entrance to sessions, a conference bag and proceedings, and daily lunch and refreshment breaks. Only bona fide full-time students may register at the student rate. Proof of student status is required. The student rate includes all social events and dinners.
ACCOMMODATIONBlock accommodation bookings at special conference rates have been made for course participants and delegates at the bush lodges KwaMaritane and Bakubung, and these rates include dinner, bed and breakfast. Additional chalets have been booked at Bakgatla, and the rates include bed and breakfast only, and all dinners have to be paid for separately. (The cost of the conference day package is included in the course/conference registration fee.)
This is a remote venue and accommodation is limited. Only 35 single (53 twin share) rooms at KwaMaritane and 20 single (47 twin share) rooms at Bakubung are available. Once all the single rooms at KwaMaritane have been taken, delegates wishing to stay single will automatically be booked into Bakubung and will be advised accordingly. Once all the twin share rooms at KwaMaritane have been taken, delegates wishing to share accommodation will be booked into Bakubung and advised accordingly. Thereafter delegates will be booked into shared accommodation at Bakgatla or find their own accommodation elsewhere. Please do not book accommodation directly with the lodges – you will not enjoy the benefit of the special conference rate, and in addition will prevent the conference secretariat from maintaining control of the booking process. No deductions will be allowed for late arrival and early departure.
TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTKwaMaritane Bush Lodge is situated approximately 150 kilometres northwest of Pretoria and Johannesburg. A shuttle bus service from the airport has proved to be extremely expensive and will not be provided, and delegates flying into Johannesburg International Airport will find it cheaper to share a rental vehicle with friends or colleagues (except tour participants, who will be collected from and delivered to the airport).
PRE-CONFERENCE COURSESCourse outlines are provided in the programme of events. Course fees of R1 300 include lunch and refreshment breaks and course material, but not accommodation. Accommodation has been reserved at KwaMaritane for participants wishing to stay over on Saturday night 26 August 2006. Each course will be only be conducted if a minimum of 10 participants register. Up to 25 participants per course can be accommodated. We will notify participants if the course will not be held. If you are planning to stay at KwaMaritane, please register by 30 June 2006.
PRE-CONFERENCE TECHNICAL TOURIt is suggested that tour participants book early to ensure that they obtain accommodation at KwaMaritane, as they will not have their own transport.
The tour programme is provided in the programme of events. We booked accommodation at Lapalala some months ago, and were informed on 31May that the Rhino camp has burnt down, which will necessitate a number of tour participants sharing accommodation. This will not entitle those who share accommodation to a rebate, as we do not pay a per person rate at Lapalala, but have rented the camps at a fixed price.
The tour fee of R1 500 includes lunch and refreshment breaks on both days, dinner, bed and breakfast at Lapalala, all social and technical visits and your return journey from the conference to the airport on Wednesday 30 August 2006. Please note that the tour will be conducted only if a minimum of 19 participants register. We will notify participants if the tour will not take place. Please register by 30 June 2006.
